Peter Webster, Chapter 2, Question

In the second chapter, the thing I found most interesting was the idea of creative destruction. Wheelan had a good example of it when he talked about the the farmers. "At the beginning of the twentieth century, half of all Americans worked in farming or ranching. Now that figure is about one in a hundred and still falling" (Wheelan 47). Wheelan goes on to say that we have not starved to death, and we don't have a 49 percent unemployment rate. Instead, people are able to go out and create new things instead of working in farms all day. Technology has become so productive that we no longer need as many people doing the same things anymore. This means people like Steve Jobs, Oprah, and Steven Spielberg are able to do their own thing and further improve the economy.
